This review is for the 2019 version not the 2018 version.I own at least 30 DK Eyewitness travel guides. They are the only guides that I have used for the past 20 years. This 2019 version looks like it is a "knock-off" product from some third world publisher. The pages are printed on cheap paper and the entire book is of very poor quality. It reminds me of a book that someone threw together with xerox copies of another book. I am returning it immediately. I would give it zero stars if i could.The 2018 version meets the quality standard that I am used to.

This is a great, full color travel guide. As other reviews detail, it shows in detail the highlights of every area in Prague. If there is a major exhibit (like St. Vitus' Cathedral) it will have a full spread showing the cathedral and pointing out with an illustration what is there. That is what makes this book great to have. We carried it through the castle complex and it was helpful. I usually use it to review the night before we head to an area for an overview. I agree with another reviewer that this is a little to large to comfortable carry around with you everywhere. I would still get this, but also pick up the Lonely Planet POCKET Prague published in June of 2012. That little gem went everywhere with us and has a great map of each section of the city tagged with highlights and recommended restaurants. It is full color but so small that it can't have pictures of everything like this one does. I would comment that I read both Fodors and Frommers before my trip (library) and preferred both the DK travel guide and the Pocket Prague. They were ok for trip planning and what to expect. I also picked up Rick Steves 2012 edition for background, read it at the hotel and used ideas from it. No color and not what I needed to explain what I was seeing like DK's!

This is hands down the best guide book I've found to date. I'd purchased a few others that were either extremely small (for weight reasons?) and therefore hard to read, or else were satisfactory. When I opened the cover to this book, I was greeted with a colored map of the four "towns" that make up Prague. There are multiple colored illustrations and photos, and great side bars on interesting sites throughout the city. This book is very detailed, and very much worth the cost (which was fairly low since I bought a used copy). I highly recommend this book to anyone planning a trip to Prague. I will seek out other guide books by DK Eyewitness - this is now my standard for excellence in guidebooks.

As a knowledgable person of Prague, I know it still helps to have a large city map to view where buses & trams are going; cell phone maps can't provide the bigger picture or location of multiple areas of interest on a single view. Has sufficient detail of areas or items of interest w background and how to get to these places.

I've used the Eyewitness books for our last 2 trips to Europe and I absolutely love them! I've decided to choose the version (full or Top 10) depending on the amount of time we'll be visiting a city. For any trips that are 3 days or less, you can definitley get away with the Top 10 book - it boils everything down to the best choices/most popular things to do, and is much smaller and very easy to carry around with you. For our trip to Prague, I ended up buying both versions...we were in Prague for a week (half on business), but I found that after our first couple days, I was referring to the full guide more often to find places to visit and such. I would totally recommend the Eyewitness books!

DK Eyewitness covered a lot for this city. The only thing that I did not like was the amount of information on food. DK Eyewitness always disappoints me in this area. Prague is also know for it's beer and this book barely touched on that or the many places to go to drink. This city also has a lot of cheaper places to eat that was not mentioned. This publisher should also add in things that are not so touristy. This book was filled with mostly touristy places to see or things to do. If I could I would give this book 3.5 stars. I decided to go with 4 because this book did it's job.

Reading any guide from this publisher before to travel will make every site you visit feel like meeting an old friend.Rereading it on your return will prompt more memories than any photo you might chance to take or postcard you dropped a euro on.Buy it second hand if money is an issue.Give it to a good friend who takes a journey to your guide's locale-this makes a very thoughtful gift--but only if you really like your friend and are feeling especially generous.

Very helpful. Covers the areas of most tourists questions. Great tour book. Includes a pull out map. Provides history, which helped in advance of visiting the city, as well as traveler tips, amongst other info and recommendations.

Although the book was good and was well written the issues that Lady Q continued to experience went continuously around in a vicious cycle. In some ways this proved to show you how the gang lifestyle would suck you back in over and over while in others it made you wonder why she wouldn't realize this and break away. I understand that she never knew any different but yet I find it hard that there was no way for her to reach out if she really wanted free. My heart hurts for her for the things she went through and also for her kids. Growing up in that environment had to be hard but every day is a step towards better. I hope she is doing well now.

Such a great read! I finished the book in 3 days because I was hooked on it and I didn't want to put it down. It makes you feel bad for Lady Q, all she wanted was to be loved and accepted by her family. Many youth turn to gangs to feel loved and accepted as well as for protection in a dangerous neighborhood. Such a shame that she didn't have the guidance and support as a young teenager looking for attention and support but her telling her story so that many other young females can avoid going down the same path. Lady Q sharing her story is brave and hopefully it inspires other young ladies to let them know that they have options and they can be successful if they stay away from the negativity in their neighborhood. I bought another book by the author because I needed to read all the books he wrote- it was awesome!

Great story of a real woman survivor that did what she needed to survive but then grew past that and soared higher but still with lots of pain and baggage

A student asked if I had this book in my library, I ordered it , he and his friends are passing it around. Good for inner city kids investigating the dark side of the streets before making negative life changing choices.

This book was an easy read that highlighted one woman's story of the rise and fall of gang life in her particular situation. As a person who likes to learn and read about all different walks of life, this book was engaging as I could actually see myself taking the journey with Sonia; all the while praying that somewhere now The Lord is blessing her for such a hard beginning to her life. It also highlighted the cycle of abuse that we continue to see daily.

I love MMA Romotswe and all her friends. I love the descriptions of Botswana, the cattle, the sky, the landscape and the lives of the people who live there.And, generally, I love these novels, but this one felt forced and a little off. The ending came quickly, as if the author had found something more important to do and just wanted it finished. I would never want these novels to end, but perhaps Mr. McCall Smith needs to take a bit of a break and recharge his Botswanan reserves.

Fans of the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency will not be disappointed with Book 19 in the series. "The Colours of all the Cattle" rekindles our relationship with the lovable characters of the book as well as the easy going life in Botswana. This volume introduced the fascinating new prospect of Mma Ramotswe as a politician! Heaven forbid! But it all works out as it should, and we wait in anticipation for Book 20.

After a couple of lackluster entries to the long-running "No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency" series, Mma Ramotswe, Mma Makutsi, and Mma Potokwane, and Mr. J.L.B. Matekoni return with an enlivened plot and a few welcome twists. Precious Ramotswe, Botswana's favorite and perhaps its only woman detective, embarks on a quest to find the hit and run driver of a car that struck a revered doctor from her childhood, and she gets unlikely help from Charlie, the mechanic still figuring out how to change an oil filter.The sub-plot with Charlie, now 26, is poignant and layered. It enriches the book as the young man falls hard for the beautiful and well named Queenie-Queenie, who, it appears, is far out of the league of the apprentice mechanic and detective. She's not only gorgeous but from a very rich family; her well-toned brother is also highly protective and capable of causing bodily harm in any number of horrifying ways. Meanwhile, Charlie's rather effective detective work roots out the hit and run driver, an amoral thug likewise willing to bring the hapless young man to perdition. His travails and triumphs flesh out a newly interesting character.Meanwhile Mma Potokwane has decided, and therefore it will happen, that Precious will run for the equivalent of City Councilwoman in order to stop the development of a shady hotel (brothel?) way too close to a sacred graveyard. Of course, the always menacing Violet Sephotho lurks in the background of this nefarious scheme, as she always seems to lurk when the adjective "nefarious" applies. Interestingly, Violet is talked about but never appears in the story. Mma Makutsi's botched detective work has no effect, and it is left to Mma Ramotswe to win the day by running against the formidable Violet.One sour note is hit here. Mma Ramotwe is featured in the voting booth staring at the ballot adorned with her name â€” and Violet's â€” making the election no longer theoretical but a frightening reality. Her inner agony at the prospect of voting for herself and her ultimate choice found me deeply disconcerted, even distraught. This was not the Precious Ramotswe I've come to know 19 volumes in. This is of course a personal reaction; others may perceive the scene quite differently.All in all, however, the resolutions are satisfying and beautiful Botswana emerges once again a jewel in the African firmament. Contentment descends upon our beloved residents as they go about repairing cars, selling couches, embracing orphans, and, of course, solving the inscrutable mysteries that will never withstand the transcendent sleuthing skills of the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency.

I really like this series of books. They are a light read and are not inundated with sex, violence and foul language.

As always, the solutions in the cases Mma Ramotswe are ones based on simple, under rated values. Compassion, kindness and common sense do the trick, just as a simple placebo of coloured water soothes the complaints of a suffering patient at the Mochudi clinic who needed only simple kindness.

The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency novels are never fast moving, but they usually draw you in with the charm of the characters, the light mystery, and Botswana. I'm sorry to report that this entry drags on. Getting Precious involved in local politics goes nowhere, and is boring. The best thing about this book is the chapter concerning the "fight" between Grace and Phuti. I laughed because Grace gets on everyone's nerves, and it was fun to see her husband finally stand up to her. The secondary story concerning Charlie would have been better if cut down; it went on forever. For all the complaints, I still look forward to the next story in the series.

â€œI canâ€™t promise anythingâ€”but I shall do my best.â€ This is the campaign slogan that Mma Precious Ramotswe uses in her bid for a seat on the Gaborone City Council. She is doing this against her better judgement, having been coerced into the political arena by her friends Mma Potokwane, Mma Makutsi, and Rra Polopetsi. Her husband has wisely decided not to offer his opinion.Of course there is the concern about a greedy land developer who wants to build the Big Fun Hotel next to a graveyard where most people believe those who have passed would consider it a dishonor. The deciding factor is her opponent, Violet Saphotho, who is the arch-enemy of Mma Makutsi (now Joint Managing Director of the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency). Violet is running unopposed and is sure to win if Mma Ramotswe doesnâ€™t give her competition. It is Mma Makutsi herself who learns through solid detective work the Violet is conspiring with the land developer; she is willing to take a bribe in order to vote in favor of the hotel.When a case of hit and run surfaces from Mma Ramotsweâ€™s hometown of Mochudi, it is handled by the new assistant detective in training â€“ Charlie. Readers of the series will recall Charlie as something of a ladies man, as well as having been an apprentice in the motor shop. But in this installment Charlie is beginning to mature and finds himself in love with a young woman of means. He laments his former lifestyle and mourns the time he squandered instead of learning a trade. He is determined to be a good assistant detective.In their own style, the characters who populate this book are not only old friends to many readers but also are a laid back commentary on life. I thoroughly enjoyed The Colors of All The Cattle. In this, the nineteenth book of the series, we see our friends begin to evolve as they reflect on life and their part in it. Another hit for the prolific Alexander McCall Smith. Great book to cuddle up with on a cold winter night or a warm beach day.

About the Author

Ellen Giangiordano is a wife and mother of five children who is an attorney by training. This book was really well done. The pictures are simple and not overly graphic. I appreciated that common language was used as well religious language. I also felt the author was clear about the relationship between man, woman, and God and why marriage is important. I recommend that you set aside about an hour and read through the entire book at once -- I couldn't imagine trying to break it up and it's really not necessary. The only reason this didn't get 5 stars for me is because I wish there had been more information about menstruation/body changes for girls and body changes and natural things to expect with boys -- maybe a couple of follow-up books would be in order. With that in mind - I think this book for my kids would have been ok at age 7 or 8 vs. the recommended age 9 -- but it's certainly parent/child dependent. Again, overall, it was a great way to start those conversations and something I know that we will revisit from time to time as they learn and have more questions.

Scripturally based, theologically sound, refreshingly positive. Focuses on the beauty, the gift, the precious bond of marital love. Honors JPII's Theology of the Body. So many books on this topic fall short; this one is just what we were looking for.

Beautifully and thoughtfully done. Gives kids just the right amount of information in an age appropriate way. I've recommended this to all of our friends with kids approaching the age where this topic needs to be discussed.

If I could rate this book, with more than 10 stars, I would. This book really helped me and my 11 year old daughter to discuss, in the most natural and beautiful way, how babies are made. Thank God for books like this. My whole admiration from a new fan in Guatemala. Hopefully there will be a Spanish translation soon.

My boys are 11 and 12 and I am a single mother. I thought the book might be too simplistic for them but it was actually very helpful and made it easy to have the conversation with them. I actually learned some beautiful things about our faith.
