I keep giving these away, finally bought the Kindle version so that I would have a copy even when I've given away my hard copy. I say the Daily Offices, but they can take some time. When I'm in a hurry, this excellent little book allows me to go through my daily prayers a bit more efficiently. The book itself is compact and easy to carry. The Kindle formatting isn't perfect. The book is divided into "chapters," each chapter beginning with the day of the week, and the weekdays are printed in a lighter-colored font. On my Kindle keyboard, that lighter-colored font is difficult to read, but it's really not a big deal, since only the "chapter titles" are in that color. When I'm reading the prayers on the Kindle app on my phone, it's a non-issue.
This pocket sized book provides excerpts from the Book of Common Prayer to be used in the morning, noon, evening, and compline times for seven days, plus a few pages of prayers for occasions and particular situations. Using this book faithfully over the years would be an excellent path for learning many portions of the Psalms, for daily prayer, and for spiritual formation.One thing I particularly like is that it is almost entirely excerpts from the BOCP. Books for meditation that depend upon a individual writer's reflections can be helpful, but nothing compares to Scripture and the long tradition of the Church.It's surprisingly absent from nearly all book store shelves. I first encountered it at an Episcopal bookstore in Seattle.The Kindle edition works very well on my iPhone.
The book of hours has all the principal hours of the Divine Office, though shortened. I added a prayer for the saint of the day according to the Catholic Calendar on the inside back cover since I am a practicing Catholic. I really enjoy using this book of prayer along with my daily Rosary.I too am a practicing Catholic, and I, too really enjoy this book. I taped a Catholic prayer for the saint of the day on the inside back page of the book. Works great.
Simplest clearest prayer hours book I have ever used.This little volume is a great pocket size. Nice thick cream paper, with great layout and design. Sewn binding for durability. The leather cover is glossy and firm. It is essentially a leather bound hardcover, but it is very well done. Highly recommended!
What an awesome prayer book! This book is wonderful for everyone, but especially for those like me who may need a bit of guidance with their daily prayers. It is invaluable for those who are curious about how to start praying daily, as well as those who are dedicated prayer veterans. I loved it so much, I ended up buying several more to give to family and friends.
If you want to start a daily prayer discipline, this lovely little book is an ideal place to begin. Following the ancient Anglican practice of praying "the hours," it offers four very short prayer services--morning, noon, evening and compline—for each day of the week. Reading/praying this daily gives me both a sense of peace and inspiration. It's perfect!
Beautiful book of the Hours for Christian prayer and contemplation every day. I love having these short services whenever I need them. Small enough for medium size purse or a larger pocket. Beautiful leather binding, two color print and gilt edging.
The book is a nice addition to my devotional life and I have enjoyed being led by the prayers
