Excellent! The author writes in such a way as to make academic material read like a novel. Fascinating facts about the city of Philadelphia and the people who lived there when the country was young.
This book was in a bookshelf of a home I was visiting and I picked it out because I liked the cover and knew nothing about the subject. This is a very detailed and profoundly well considered analysis of public health issues in colonial Philidelphia. At first, this seems like a narrow subject, but through the author's command of history, geography, politics and social theory this subject provides a window into colonial thought and behavior which results in an extremely interesting and satisfying piece of scholarship.
