Brillant and sensitive photographer....and what can I say, she made her art speak for the people. She should be required reading & viewing for all Americans to understand our history.

I am a photography student, and we had to read and write a book report on a photographer for class. I selected Dorothea because I am became interested in the 1930's through the 1950's in America, particularly photographically.Let me say that Dorothea lived a lifestyle way ahead of her time. During a period in America when women stayed home with their children and husbands, Dorothea farmed out her children to be on the road and working.I really enjoyed this book. It had some of her well-known photographs i.e. The Migrant Mother, and others that I enjoyed seeing. I wish there had been more of her photography in the book and perhaps more details of her life.The story is written by the daughter of her life-long assistant Ron Partridge. Elizabeth Partridge does a good job with the information she has at hand. I particularly enjoyed her own memories of families Thanksgiving day dinners shared at Dorothea's 20' long table.Great book as a start of a collection of Lange's work. It is also a nice reference for information about the American Dust Bowl, The migrant workers, Japanese Interment Camps during WWII, and The Great Depression, and tenant farmers in the South and Southwest! The story has given me a different perspective on America during this period I apparently didn't know a lot about. The conditions that American's dealt with, and the photographs that show the story, are shocking. I grew up in "white bread" New York, and could not fathom that such heart-ache existed in another part of our country just a couple of decades before my youth.The story of Lange's life and dedication truly gave me a new respect for her work, and the type of sacrifaces a person has to make to accumulate a body of work such as Lange's.I would recommend this book.

This book was simply fantastic. It's one of the most beautiful, soulful and inspiring design and lifestyle book that I have read in a very very long time. I couldn't wait for it to come out and it exceeded my expectations. I am so in love with not only the surfing lifestyle, but the philosophy of living behind it. Getting a sneak peek into the living environments while learning about what makes these free spirits tick brought such a great peacefulness to life. While the world churns out negativity, division, anger and disrespect, this book is a breath of fresh salty air. I love it and want to pick up a surf board or at least go put my feet in the sand and appreciate everything I have in life.

This book was everything I hoped it would be and more. Nina Freudenberger is an incredible talent, with a top eye for beautiful design. Her unique sensibility creates artful yet liveable inviting spaces. After reading this book, I sent it to all my friends as gifts. Everyone shared the same sentiment.

This is a wonderful book with casual homes, many with reclaimed materials, and plenty of wood. Most of the homes are furnished with colorful textiles and have a laid-back feel. There's no pretension here. Of course there are plenty of surf boards. The book is printed on heavy paper and has some weight to it. Overall, I'm very pleased.

Many coffee table books collect dust once they're placed on display. Not so with this lovely tome! Yes, it's pretty enough to sit on my shelf, but it also collects old-fashioned page views from visiting family and friends. The photographs are drenched in light and chock full of design inspiration. Best of all, the images and text really transport you to the many exotic and far-flung locales featured in the book. It's a must-read for anyone looking to create a laid-back, bohemian vibe in their space.

This book is as beautiful in person as I'd hoped from taking a peek at the preview. Featuring super chic / chill "surf shacks" from across the globe, plus stories about the people who live this awesomely laid-back surf-positive lifestyle, it's a book that takes you into a very specific world. It's a great getaway read, and an ideal accent for any coffee or end table. I've had a few guests over since I received it and everyone gravitates toward it. Even now that I've already read it (the words really are as compelling as the images), I find myself returning to it again and again.

I bought this book for my husband, the design enthusiast, and he was super happy with it. We both love to glimpse at home and interior aesthetics. It is nice to get off pinterest and instagram and hold a thought out and beautiful book exploring this fun lifestyle. If you love interiors and design you will love this book.

Nina has an incredible eye and has created such warmth interweaving her design aesthetic with truly honoring surf communities laid back mentality and beautiful approach to life. The content of the book should be good. This is a gift and the photos are just as I expected very colorful and interesting. However, I was disappointed the book arrived with black smudges on the cover. The cover does not have a gloss finish, so attempting to clean it is difficult. Any water used causes a layer of "paper" to dissolve. I managed to clean it up some, but there are two streaks I cannot attempt to "wash off". It would be too obvious.

It's great to look at the images.However, if you're thinking that this book is gonna give detailed tutorials then you're out of luck. The tutorials are great but not for beginners and some are not clear. And only some of the artist give tutorials not all (which is understandable).

great inspiring artwork, nice to look at nothing I could not find on line, the real problem was there are no real tutorials, a paragraph on how someone created a image does not make a tutorial.

I had to buy this book for a class I'm taking. It is very interesting and full of great pictures, how to guides, and artist bios. This is great not only for in class reading, but for personal use as well.

I was intrigued by this non-fiction story after reading the prologue, and indeed the first few chapters are riveting. Paul Leroux is a devious mastermind who helped fuel the opioid epidemic in the US. The way in which he skirted the laws and laundered his money were genius because it was almost legal. The author makes a very good case that had Leroux continued in that vein, instead of breaking all the way bad, he would have been a celebrated billionaire.This is a fast read, though, I read it over a weekend, and look forward to the TV documentary...some day.

This book has it all -- a brilliant criminal mastermind, a cast of sometimes-bumbling mercenaries, a dogged DEA agent, and a trail of blood that Ratliff follows from the Philippines to Israel to Brazil to a nondescript bureaucratic office in Minneapolis. Reads like a thriller, but it's all, unfortunately, totally true. A terrific book.

I have enjoyed Evan Ratliff on the Longform podcast, so before this book came out I suggested my local library purchase it, and they did. I borrowed it immediately and read it over a weekend; engrossed enough to ignore all of my typical weekend activities. It is a bonkers story, well researched and well presented. It's good enough that I decided to buy the book to support the author, and read it again. I look forward to the film version, and whatever else Mr. Ratliff produces in the future. Ratliiff’s fabulous reporting and accessible writing has resulted in a truth is stranger than fiction crime tale that will keep you engrossed to the very end.

Le Roux a/k/a "The Mastermind" is basically a Bond villain, and this book unfolds like a great espionage/crime thriller. It's hard to believe this is real life, but the author obviously spent many hours researching the story to accurately capture every detail. Definitely worth a read, for fiction and nonfiction fans alike.

This is one of THE best books I have ever read. Wonderfully written, and you just will not believe some of what you read, but it's true! I could not put this book down. Paul Le Roux is a true monster, as evil as they come. But this book. You won't regret it!
