I bought this for the MPRE. I started with Themis but found it completely useless (I was consistently scoring below 60% and sometimes even below 53%). I went through the flash cards in about a week and immediately (after just 1 day with the flash cards) saw better performance on the practice tests. I would definitely recommend this for the MPRE. I'd also recommend spending at least one week, preferably 2 or maybe even 3 weeks on these, depending on how many other things you have going on. It's very thorough, and repetition is the key. I scored 110.

These cards were the only thing I used to study for the MPRE. There are two boxes of cards and it takes about 8 hours to go thru each box carefully, so plan on 2 full days to go thru them all. I went thru each box twice, and it took me about 5 days of studying 6 hours per day to do so. I received a 131/150 scaled score (only need 80-85 to pass most jurisdictions), so these cards work. On the other hand, (i) the naming conventions used in the card are confusing (e.g., the author likes to use famous names in the examples, but that just kept me focusing on the names rather than the subject), (ii) the depth of the subjects treated is too great in some cases and not enough in others, and (iii) the card format means it's difficult to organize the material and put it in a logical framework without doing your own outlining. Thus, it's strickly a memory exercise. If you have a decent memory, these cards are very good for their intended purpose. If you don't, I suggest you use another format to study. If you really want to learn the Model Rules so you can apply them in real life (as opposed to just pass the MPRE), you may want to get a more conventional textbook.

Numerous misprints. Many hypotheticals and answers take up several cards and have different font sizes which defeat the purpose of studying by flashcard. (Might as well just type that essay out on regular size paper.) Some of the hypos focus on names and useless info rather than the issue at hand. I don't know if the MPRE's questions are like these, but they really make it difficult to identify the core issue when you have juggle five different names and how they relate to each other.Otherwise, content is thorough.

I read through the Barbri outline, got another book that gave tips on answering the questions and relied mostly on these cards for two days -- passed the NY MPRE score with no problem

Helped me study. Didn't get a great grade, but I was happy with it especially considering that the class itself sucked. Its fun to study with these cards.

These are fantastic cards for the MPRE. I studied them for 2 weeks before the exam and passed with a high score. It is helpful to do some questions from a test booklet as well.

Do not buy!! They are terribly written questions!! The answers almost always include a "probably" which is not helpful at all when studying for a multiple choice test. Biggest waste of money and absolute fraud. MR 8.4(c)

The BEST Halloween book ever done. Great ideas for house decorating, costumes, foods, and treats. Back in the 80's and 90's Martha Stewart shows were fabulous..better than what came later. This book is the same...highly recommend...can't beat the price!

Martha is a wonderfully creative artist, and here she has put together another Halloween jewel.

I love this book. Mainly for the pictures. The instructions seem a little vague but for the most part, you can probably figure things out from the pictures. The pictures do take up probably 75% of the book. I guess this might be better for people who are looking for nice pictures of the Halloween season.

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays and this book has some great ideas for crafts, costumes and food. One of the best halloween inspired snacks was for ladies fingers and men's toes, I brought these to a Halloween party and they were a big hit.The crafts and recipes in this book are fairly easy to make with planning. Don't try to pull anything off at the last minute. But with some planning and the right tools/ingredients you can achieve a really beautiful finished product.

this is a typical martha stewart book. the ideas are good but as always she uses her style and we all know it will cost alot and you try to impress everyone. got this for the wife to get ideas for halloween. great for ideas though

Halloween is not a big deal here in Australia, so I was looking for a inspirational book with plenty of how-tos and ideas... I bought this book after combing the Martha Stewart website, expecting more of the same great stuff. I was a little disappointed when it arrived. Still a good book, but I'd recommend going though the website first - a lot of the stuff in this book is contained there anyway. The book has a very appealing look, and is still a good read, but for sheer volume of ideas, all with easy instuctions, use the website.

I bought this book for Halloween decoration ideas and this book didn't fail to disappoint. Unfortunately being an apartment-dweller, this book is geared towards people lucky enough to have a nice, big old house in New England with requisite front porch, etc. The food section provides some great ideas that go beyond candy corn and Dum-Dums, that anyone can try. It was fun just looking through the book. For those that go all out for Halloween, this is something that would be a welcome addition to their holiday deco library.

I have complete about half the book and already feel I can start using the concepts. Very easy to read at the same time packed with content. I am not an expert in Java but the explanations in the book is enough to understand the little JAVA snippets. I barely know Regular Expressions, the brief introduction in this book is better than anything I have read online to grasp Regular Expression.I would like to thank the authors for this great product.

My pet peeve is just that there are no great Python BDD books.To the authors if they read this review - please consider doing a Python follow up book!

One word.Excellent book for every member in the team whether they are developers, testers,BA's as lot of teams are moving towards automation first approach and this book helps to understand the concepts easily.

Excellent cucumber book.

This book is very detailed and really helps in writing the tests efficiently and correctly.

I bought the original Cucumber for Ruby book and found it a great way to learn the Cucumber style of BDD; the examples were easy to understand but still insightful. But I'm a Java programmer primarily, so I skipped over some of the Ruby-specific stuff. So when this Java version of that book came out and I was offered a copy to review I jumped at the chance to see what was I might have missed in applying Cucumber in Java-land.As you might expect, much of the material covering the syntax of the Gherkin language is the same for both Java and Ruby, but there was also a lot of new/revamped material not in the original book. I thought the chapter on keeping "Cucumbers sweet" (where the authors extol us to listen to the specs) was good, and the chapter on database testing (a particular bette noire of mine) was also good to see, though perhaps not as in depth as I would have liked. But the chapters on async calls and testing REST services showed how easy it is to put together workable specs for non-simplisitic systems; I started reading those chapters wondering how the authors would piece the thing together, and ended up thinking... "oh, that wasn't that hard, was it?"Being a PragProg book, I sometimes found the step-by-step guide a little bit too slow; I found myself scouring instead for the various sidebars with their useful asides and insights; the boilerplate of "Now let's do this, now let's do that" was a little bit grating. But then again, that's the PragProg style, and I think it possibly only irritated on this occasion because I'd already read the Ruby book.Overall, by reading this book you'll come away with a great understanding of the BDD mindset, and if it appeals then you'll have a great headstart in how to apply those techniques to your own Java projects.

This is a book for you if you're a programmer working with Java and want to know how to apply Cucumber to facilitate better collaboration between stakeholders and delivery team members. People starting out with specification by example will learn good test design patterns for the given-when-then design style, people who used Cucumber on other platforms will value information about Java-version peculiarities such as table handling and organising dependency injection, and experienced Cucumber users will definitely benefit from learning about advanced syntax time savers such as transformers. In short, there's something for everyone in this book, regardless of your level of experience.The initial part of the book is a nice overview of the Cucumber specification language Gherkin, and explains how to set up the toolkit for working with Java. For people on the JVM platform, but not working directly with Java, the last part of the book complements this with some nice hello-world-style examples in popular alternative JVM languages. The authors go into detail about making tests faster, more robust and focusing on business needs to avoid bored stakeholders. This part has a solid coverage of good test automation patterns such as running inside transactions, achieving independence and synchronising async processes. The book also contains plenty of examples of test automation ideas for popular infrastructural components in the Java ecosystem, including Spring, Tomcat and MySQL. As someone new to Miyazaki, I wondered whether this book by a recognized scholar would be for me. But I needn't have worried. The book is accessible and insightful -- something to keep on the bedside table.

Great book!!

Amazing. Reading this almost felt like a betrayal an invasion of privacy. His life has been a long and difficult road. Born in a terrible time for Japan, raised in the shadow of great darkness, he carries that shadow. His views are so different from these modern times, yet he had grabbed ahold of the world and we have loved his art. The things I learned about him and his characters, scenery, and location choices gave me goosebumps. I never saw that but I see it now, so many layers. He is a workaholic, that is no surprise, but the fact that he struggled to be seen does. This is a very interesting man who has touched many hearts, while healing his own heart. Don't tell him I said that but that is what I read between these pages.This man's art is breathtaking, the details, and colors so full and rich. My favorite are his clouds, they are so beautiful they compete with nature's version so well it's hard to believe they are drawn sometimes. I have been a fan of his work for many years, I own all his released movies, but knew little of the man behind the genius. You can get a feel of some parts of him though his art, his Shinto touches are most visible to me. His movies are so filled with hope, dread, adventure, struggle, heartbreak, love, loneliness, and renewal. Everyone who watches seems to get something different form his work all feel something strongly. How did this man get so many complex layers, we get to know a few. If you're a fan, read this book. Interested in the mental after effect of devastation and war on a man, read this book.I loved this book. I read a chapter then watched the movie it was talking about. I suggest you do the same with a new vantage point.

Miyazakiworld by Susan Napier is a free NetGalley ebook that I read in mid-August.11 chapters, each of an individual film's origin, interpretation, central themes, and its greater reflection on Miyazaki’s life. Napier goes on a considerably philosophical bent of an animated film evoking depth (of both plot and character, instead of humor and silliness); drawing from European scenery/art/literature; revering life, timelessness, harmony (i.e. an interplay between nature, element/influence of the otherworld, and humans); a slowing of human progress (particularly setting aside adulthood); transitioning amid points in your childhood during crisis and confusion; and fighting through inner & outer conflict in order to live your best life.

I feel really bad about not finishing this - it was an ARC, and it's the first ARC I haven't finished prior to reviewing it.I simply have too much on my plate right now to read a very long, very in-depth academic-level analysis of Miyazaki's oeuvre, even if it's written in an approachable way. What I read was mostly interesting, but I admit that I didn't totally love the psychoanalyzing of mother figures in his work and how it related to his relationship with his own mother. It seemed like a stretch to me. That said, I also didn't perform all the years of research into this topic that the author did, so it could simply be that I'm ignorant.I did enjoy the discussion of Miyazaki's political and ideological landscape, and I found the sections discussing his time at Toei animation very engaging to read.
